The Great Cuddyer/Tulowitzki Mets Conspiracy

Reddit User irlkg – Time to put the tin foil hat on: Here’s how it went/is going to go down.

Mets disappointed with season, thought they could’ve finished over .500. Feel with Harvey back and a full year of deGrom or improved Wheeler, they can make a run, but they need offensive help. Specifically at SS.

Here comes the Rockies. They want a big return for Tulo, but Mets aren’t biting. What could really help seal the deal? Hmmm, maybe a 1st round draft pick? Damn, too bad those can’t be traded in baseball.

…or can they?

Dick Monfort sat back and devised his grand master plan along with Sandy. The Rockies would give Cuddyer the QO. Crazy right? And the Mets would sign him the first week into FA? CRAZIER RIGHT?!

No. It’s all…….part of the plan.

The Rockies get the 1st round pick. The Mets, along with giving up probably Thor and Wheeler or Nimmo and others get Tulo.

It’s so stupid it might make sense. Not really, but mmm the kool aid must taste nice right now for Mets fans.

What about the Second Draft Pick on the Grassy Knoll?? Say this is stupid and crazy all you want. This is the Offseason AKA The Regular Season for Mets fans where we can hope and dream and covet and desire. We can propose our own trades and hypothesize and….CONSPIRACIZE. Obviously my brain knows this is dumb. And part of my brain thinks trading for Tulo in general would be dumb in a way. But I would fucking love for this sort of scheme to be real. For a fan base that usually sits by and watches ownership and management sit on their hands, if Sandy was colluding with Colorado to land his outfielder and his shortstop all in one shot while keeping one of his prospect chips, it would erase every bad thing I ever had to say about him as GM.

On a serious note about the Cuddyer signing, look at this quote from Capital:

“Mets general manager Sandy Alderson likely felt he had to strike when given the green light from ownership to spend. He does not have the luxury that nearly every other general manager in the game enjoys, which is a budget to work from, and thus the luxury of knowing if he doesn’t spend X dollars on one player, he’ll have the chance to spend that money on another player. It’s how Chris Young became a New York Met for $7.25 million around this time last offseason, when Alderson knew his team needed outfielders, and didn’t know if that money would still be there in, say, January.”

Thats Wilpon Life for you, folks. The GM gets word that the Wilpons are going to toss a couple shekels his way and hes gotta spend them immediately. Rather than being able to wait until he’s sure of his target, he’s gotta spend them before the Wilpons decide to stuff it back in their shylock pockets. Sandy should be like “no backsies” any time the Wilpons give him the green light to spend and that will buy him some time. Rather than being like “What? There’s money? TO SPEND?? Go get me someone! Anyone! Cuddyer! GO!” But sir, he’s 35, coming off an injury, has grey hair, and he’ll cost you a draft pick. “I SAID GO GET ME CUDDYER.”
